Meet Holland Shea: Volunteer, Advocate, and Monthly Donor

It takes a special kind of person to support grieving children—and an even more remarkable one to continue that support from 1,500 miles away. Holland Shea is one of those people. A former volunteer at The WARM Place in 2009-2011 and 2015-2016 and a recurring monthly donor since 2020, Holland’s story is a testament to the lasting impact of compassion and community.

Tell us a little about yourself and your family.

I moved to Fort Worth at 14, shortly after my father passed away from a pulmonary embolism. Raised by two attorneys, I’ve always had a passion for the law. I met my husband in law school in Michigan, and after graduation, we moved to his hometown in New Jersey. I now work as a contract manager for our county, but my favorite job is being a mom to our two energetic boys, ages four and five.

How did you first get involved with The WARM Place?

While working at Alcon, I saw a flyer in the breakroom looking for volunteers. Having experienced the loss of a parent at a young age, I felt drawn to support children going through something similar.

Can you share a special memory from your time as a volunteer facilitator?

Volunteering at The WARM Place was incredibly healing. The training helped me understand parts of my own grief I hadn’t addressed. I found a sense of family among the volunteers—we bonded over shared experiences and supported each other before and after group sessions. I made lifelong friends there.

You became a monthly donor in 2020, even after moving out of state. What inspires you to keep giving?

Although I didn’t attend The WARM Place as a child, the training I received as a facilitator helped me process the loss of my stepfather, who died from ALS while I was in law school. The WARM Place is deeply committed to healing, and their programs are vital for children and families navigating grief. Knowing my support helps sustain that mission keeps me inspired to give.

What would you say to someone thinking about getting involved?

Whether you give your time or resources, supporting The WARM Place is one of the most meaningful things you can do. The love and care shared among families, staff, and volunteers create a truly nurturing environment. It’s a fulfilling experience to be part of that.

Anything else you’d like to share?

The WARM Place offers a uniquely compassionate space for healing. After my father’s death, I grieved alone. Years later, when my stepfather passed, I had a community around me. That support made all the difference. It showed me just how powerful shared healing can be.

You can make a lasting impact, too. Join the Remember Me Giving Program and become a monthly donor today! Every gift—no matter the size—adds up to provide consistent, compassionate care to grieving children and their families.
