Dancing with His Memory in Her Heart

Each year at The WARM Place, we have the honor of highlighting a graduating senior whose story reflects strength, hope, and the lasting impact of love after loss. This year, we are proud to share Kaylynn’s story. As she celebrates graduation and looks ahead to her future, Kaylynn reminds others who are grieving that they are not alone. Even through life’s biggest milestones, the love and memory of those we miss remain with us every step of the way.
Kaylynn! Tell us about yourself – how do you like to spend your time? What are you into?

I was born in Arlington, Texas and I have two brothers (ages 36 & 22) named Justin and Kolby. I currently live in Midlothian and I have made many friends here. I love to shop, hang out with friends and family and attend church every Sunday. I have attended the same church for 16 years. I like to go to Starbucks and get my favorite drink, an iced caramel latte. I have also danced since I was three years old. I was on my school’s drill team for four years and absolutely loved it

We know this is such a pivotal chapter in your life! What’s next for you after high school?

I am going to attend Navarro Cosmetology school in the fall. The school is in Waxahachie, TX. I want to be a hair dresser and maybe own my own hair salon one day.

Can you share what brought you to The WARM Place?

I came to the Warm Place because my dad passed away in October of 2023. He died from Melanoma, a form of skin cancer. I first heard about The WARM Place from my grandma.

What special ways do you and your family keep the memory of your dad alive?

One of the ways is we like to talk about the fun times we had with him. I dedicate my solo dances to him. He loved watching me perform so much. Holidays with my family we like to have a quiet time and talk about all the fun we had with him.

I know there was a special hat ceremony at your school, and you integrated your dad in a unique way on your hat – can you tell us more about that?

Yes! Each senior who retires their hat has both parents walk up on stage with a hat box. Unfortunately I do not have both parents to walk up on stage with me so my brother and mom walked together while holding a picture of my dad. I wanted to make it as special as I could for my dad. It was so special to me.

Lastly – as someone who experienced the death of a parent as a child, what advice would you give to other children who are experiencing that same tragedy right now?

My advice would be to always live for and love like that special someone who passed! My dad was always known for going out of his way to be kind to people. I will always live by that and will always try my best. Another piece of advice I want to give is just to take it day by day. Some days will be great while other days won’t be so great.
