As The WARM Place approaches its 36th anniversary, we’re filled with gratitude for the many individuals who have supported our mission over the years. Some of them have been part of our story for decades – and we’re honored to introduce you to one of those special people: Melissa Snow.

Melissa has had a unique and long-standing relationship with The WARM Place. For nearly 25 years, she faithfully handled our monthly accounting. Today, now retired, she continues to serve our mission in a new way—as a dedicated member of our Board of Directors since October 2024.
Her journey began in public accounting, later transitioning into writing accounting guidance before eventually starting her own practice. It was during this chapter of her career that a professional acquaintance – deeply involved with The WARM Place, asked if she’d be interested in taking us on as a client. She agreed, and that decision would turn into a decades-long commitment.

When asked what inspired her to take the next step and join the Board, Melissa shared “Through all the years I came in to do the books, I had an outside view of everything that was done. The WARM Place has always had the best leadership, top-notch staff, and such a wonderful work environment. Everyone loves their job and understands how important their role is. Everyone truly believes in the mission.” Melissa also noted her deep respect for how thoughtfully the organization manages its resources. “Knowing how careful and intentional The WARM Place is with how they spend their funds is impressive. I’ve worked with a number of nonprofits over the years, and The WARM Place really stands out. I think I only raised my fees $5 over 25 years as my way of giving back!” Melissa has also been a loyal donor for many years and has participated in numerous fundraising events supporting The WARM Place.
At The WARM Place we know grief touches everyone at some point—whether as a child or later in life—and Melissa knows that firsthand. “I lost my mom when I was 16 years old. I lived in a small town and didn’t even know that places like The WARM Place existed. I dealt with my grief on my own – we just got over it, because there really wasn’t another option. But seeing the children that come through The WARM Place today, it’s clear how great the need truly is.”

With so many years of WARM Place memories, we asked Melissa if she had a favorite. She laughed as she recalled one that still stands out. “I remember one time I was in my little office working through the numbers, and all of a sudden I heard someone on the intercom announce, ‘It’s ice cream time! Everyone come on down for some ice cream!’ I thought it was the funniest thing. Of course, they included me and invited me downstairs to have some peach ice cream with everyone. That’s just how things are at The WARM Place – special.”
What began as a professional relationship has become something deeply personal and meaningful. Melissa’s loyalty, commitment, and belief in our mission have only grown over the years, and we are so thankful to have her as part of The WARM Place family.
